The Healing At The Pool Of Bethesda l Steve is one of the kindest people I have ever met. His life has been one of service and goodness. He is quick to see the needs of others and do what he can to help. He has done all of this despite the handicap of having only one good hand, with the other deformed from an accident when he was young. One day he shared a story that helped explain why he is like he is. As a young boy, he had been playing with firecrackers when one blew up in his hand. Although the doctors did all they could, his hand was left deformed and mostly unusable. All of his life he struggled to do many of the things others took for granted. As he grew older, he desired to become a teacher. As part of his studies, the opportunity arose for him to spend some time in Jerusalem. One beautiful Easter morning, just before the sun rose, he made his way, in the quiet morning hours, to the pool of Bethesda. Jewish tradition had it that, at certain times of the year, an angel comes down and troubles the water. 21
