angry. He started pawing the ground,
rearing, snorting, and trumpeting a
challenge to Cashmere.
As for Cashmere, he didn’t seem
too sure that he liked the attention.
He kept backing away. But the more
timid he became, the more irresistible
he seemed to the mares. They
nuzzled and sniffed him. Finally, he
turned, pushed his way out of the
center of the huddle, and headed full
speed across the pasture. The mares
took off after him, but within seconds
he was far ahead.
When he reached the far fence
and turned, they also turned. Each
time he reached a new fence and
turned, they turned right where they
were as if they were running at his
side. It was as if they were making a
