By the time they finished that Saturday, he
had taken home 6 pickup loads of flowers. The
week after that was a busy one for him as he put
up fliers selling flowering plants for 2 dollars
and empty pots for 10 cents.
“Some people wanted to bargain,” he
complained. “But Old Mrs. Jordell was the
worst. She insisted on the very best flowers,
and then she wanted the price reduced because
there was a slightly brown leaf. Then she said
one flower was wilting, so she wanted another
deduction for that. She found enough wrong
with it that she only paid me the 10 cents that I
charged for an empty pot. And the way it was
going, she made me feel lucky that she didn’t
charge me to take it off my hands.”
“So, how can she be mad at that?”
