all brown, except for his four white mitts.” I shook my head. “Mitsy is a girl’s name.” “We could name him Paw, for his four white paws,” Daniel said. My father frowned. “Pa? Excuse me!” “Well, then, how about paw, paw, paw, paw?” John asked. “We could yell, ‘Here Paw Paw’ to call him,” Daniel said. “I don’t think so,” my dad countered. “Oh, look,” Mary said. “His paws aren’t all that’s white. He has a white tip on the end of his tail.” “You sure that’s fur and not white dog doo?” Daniel asked. “Dog doo would be brown,” John answered. “How about Tippy?” Mary suggested. “That would work,” Daniel said. “Then we could call him Dippy for short.” I couldn’t see how Dippy was short for Tippy, but this time I was overruled, and Tippy it was. Just as we were getting home, I felt something warm run down my leg. I let out a gasp, and those closest to me looked. “Tippy is wet,” Daniel said, holding his nose. “I’m glad you’re holding the dog and I’m not.” John didn’t seem to think it was all that funny, as it was his lap I was sitting on, and he was afraid it would soak into his pants, too. “It looks like the tip of his tail is now yellow,” Daniel teased. When we reached home, John nearly dumped me out the door, and I barely kept the box with Tippy upright. Everyone bailed out fast because the smell was enough to
