This means that even though they didn’t have sails, the wind could
have helped them travel faster than the standard current speed. Still, the
similarity of my calculation gave reason to believe this could be their travel
route. However, because my analysis could be off, I sought further
confirmation of the time traveling on the current. That is when I
remembered the tsunami that occurred in March 2011 in Japan. Just over a
year later, garbage that had been pulled out to sea from Japan started
washing up on the north American coast [16][WL].
Though we do not know the route the Jaredites traveled for sure,
there is much evidence for the route proposed. The Jaredites went north
from the Tower of Babel and built barges crossing some inland sea. The
Great Siberian Sea likely covered much of Asia at the time, providing a
route matching this description. The place they built boats to come to
America had at least one exceedingly high mountain. High mountains
exist along the coast of China, while few other feasible routes do. If they
did build their ships near the China Sea and traversed the northern Pacific
currents to America, the time travel on the currents matches quite closely to
the time Ether says it took them to reach the new continent. And finally,
the most significant evidence is that the Jaredite culture matches that of the
cultures of the Orient.
Of course, I reiterate that we don’t know for sure. And you might
have other ideas. That is fine, and I hope you will pursue your own
considerations. While searching for understanding, I have felt much
direction from the spirit, most directing growth in my life. Quite often, as I
came across different ideas in my study, the spirit used them to help me
understand what I needed to learn for my own spiritual development. And
even if you have other thoughts about what you consider the route of the
Jaredites’ travel, hopefully, this has given you some interesting concepts to
think about.
