Perfect Parents Don’t Exist
I have something to admit, and it’s certainly no
secret.
I am not a perfect parent.
In fact, I am not even close. Just ask my children. I
am sure they can tell you of many instances when I
could have done a better job teaching and training
them. I could have been more fair or listened more
closely. But even still, they all have turned out very
well in spite of my inadequacies. I credit them with
that success.
I saw the title of a book the other day. It was called
Guilt-Free Motherhood. It’s by a sweet lady named
Joni Hilton. I am sure it’s a great book with lots of
great ideas, but I admit that I laughed. It seemed
like such an oxymoron. I am not sure that parents
can ever be guilt free. Don’t mothers always feel
bad about something?
We feel guilty about what we are feeding our
children. We worry about whether we should have
made them wear their coat that day or if the sweater
was enough. We worry about what their teacher
will say when they don’t turn in their homework
