            Whitman turned to leave, but stopped and turned     back to Jim.  “Oh, and Jim, you’d be invited to dinner,     too.”            Jim smiled.  “Well, that’s good for us.  Agnes is a     good cook.”            Whitman nodded, and with that, he headed home.            Victor tipped his hat.  “If you men will excuse, I     have shipment to take care of.”  He gave a slight bow, and     then headed back to his ship.            “As for us, I think we better make sure the town folk     are told the truth before rumors get out of control,” Jim     suggested.            “I bet it’s too late for that,” Eli muttered, as they     headed for town.                                       24
