asked suspiciously, “Why isn’t it

bleeding?”

Derek started to laugh. “You

know, come to think of it, that’s the

one I cut the end off of a few years

ago with the table saw.”

Although clearly relieved, the

boys looked sheepish as they realized

they’d been had.

Laughing, Derek turned to me and

said, “Timing truly is everything.”
