uses the company as an excuse to
take on Jewish workers. Then he
sends them to England. A boat is
waiting for you and your friends.”
She handed Maria a paper. “Here’s
the address where you’ll find your
family.”
As the German soldier escorted
Maria to the waiting boat, she
realized he actually was Helga’s
brother.
All bitterness gone, Maria
hugged Helga’s father before
climbing into the boat. As the boat
pulled away, he waved and said,
“No good deed goes unrewarded.”
